Text' can be in any medium and may be verbal, non-verbal, or both. The term 'text' usually refers to a message which has been recorded in a few ways. For example writing, audio- and video-recording .This is done so that it is physically independent of its sender or receiver. A text is a representation of signs such as words, images, sounds and gestures that are constructed and taken with reference to the conventions related with a genre and in a particular medium of communication.
2) 2) What is “media” in the context of semiotics?
The term 'medium' is used in a variety of ways and may include such broad categories as speech and writing or print and broadcasting or relate to particular technical forms within the mass media or the media of interpersonal communication. Mass media here are radio, television, newspapers, magazines, books, photographs, films and records. Meanwhile, the media of interpersonal communications are telephone, letter, fax, e-mail, video-conferencing and computer-based chat systems. Shortly in the context of semiotics, media is known as a medium that is used to convey a certain message.
For me, 'Text' considered as sign because it comes with different style on how the way 'text' is shown.
ReplyDeleteMedia plays a big role in our life, and it is a sign of progression throughout our life. Thus, media is a sign.
By using the signs, people can communicate with the others in a unique way. Signs have different meaning that can be understand for certain people who used them.
In general, sharing the multimedia information through signs helps people to understand more about the particular signs, by looking the way of the signs used in daily routine.

ReplyDeleteSemiotics is the science of signs. Semiotics represents the sign processes, indication, symbolism, metaphor and many more. Text is one of semiotics. In IT, text is a human-readable sequence of characters and the words they form that can be encoded into computer-readable formats. But in Semiotics, text is a sign that carries out information verbally or non-verbally to others. Different form of text gives different impression to the users. For an example, text in an SMS shows the message needs to be delivered short and fast, text in an advertisement script shows how the advertisement needs to be presented and so on. The media that carries the text also determines what kind of sign the text is bringing to others.
MEDIA
The description of sign systems from language to visual media and the ideological uses of all kinds of information we are surrounded by in daily life. Media plays a vital role in the study of signs. Media caries out the importance of the signs that needs to be transferred such as text, images, audio and so on. For an example, SMS, e-mails, TV, Radio and magazines are few examples of media. TV is one of the impactful media that can transfer the communication of signs to people in a quicker manner. The effectiveness of the media depends on how fast the information of the signs are being absorbed by the people.

Media is a sign. Media refers to various means of communication and it's surround as in our life everything you do it's a media for an example talking to the phone,an image, a word, an object, or even a certain type of practice.
